Managing for a Profit, As a detail business owner, you are responsible for your employees work performance, job quality and speed. If you want good work and good attitude provide them with a work environment that is as safe as possible. And while doing all this, remember, you must comply with the governmental rules and regulations affecting your business, and still, make a PROFIT.
Some detailing procedures and practices which, up until this point, have not been looked at as closely as they should be, are going to scrutinized much closer in the future.
One specific area of scrutiny will be discharge of waste water and a Hazardous Communication Program.
Typically, a waste water charge has been regarded as a gray area in many areas of the county even though it violates the Claim Water Act, and there has been little concern shown. Because this water contaminates the rivers, streams and ground water, more attention is already being paid to this area, as well as to other issues like chemical handling and safety.
This lack of the right equipment also leads to not being able to get the job done as quickly as possible, which can lead to poor quality work, low profits and unnecessary waste.
Therefore, keeping up with new technology and products will not only improve the environment, but also your quality, profits and productivity.
The investment in new products and equipment is worthwhile, considering they can reduce redos and improve the professionalism of the technicians and the overall image of our industry.
When one appreciates and evaluates the high cost of redos, the investment required for new equipment is well outweighed by the benefits that will be accrued job after job. All you have to do is educate yourself by reading, studying and growing with the industry.
